Allen Americans Win 2013 CHL Championship

allen_americans_curved_100x100.pngGLENDALE, AZ (May 11, 2013) – The Central Hockey League’s (CHL) Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals concluded on Saturday night at the Allen Event Center with the Allen Americans erasing a 2-0 third period deficit to defeat the Wichita Thunder in overtime by a 3-2 score. The win marks the first franchise title for the Americans who became just the eighth CHL team to win both the regular season and post-season title in the same season.

Second Period Dooms Thunder in 5-1 Loss in Game 5

chl_playoffs_curved_100x100Allen, TX (May 7th) – For the second straight time in the Allen Event Center, the Americans (11-6) used a second period run to pull away from Wichita (10-3), winning 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Andrew Martens recorded his second goal of the playoffs and the only tally for Wichita. The series will move back to Wichita on Friday night with the Americans claiming its first lead of the series up three games to two.

Allen Bounces Back to Even Series with 2-1 Win in Game 4

chl_playoffs_curved_100x100Wichita, KS – A warm Sunday afternoon in Kansas was the setting for a pivotal game four of the Central Hockey League finals between the Allen Americans and Wichita Thunder.

The Thunder defeated Allen 5-2, to take the two games to one series lead in the best-of-seven series Saturday night, continuing the trend of each game in this series being decided by a three goal margin.

Thunder Drop First Game of the Playoffs; Series Even at One

chl_playoffs_curved_100x100Allen, TX (May 2nd) – Wichita (9-1) dropped its first game of the post-season on Thursday night, losing Game 2 of the CHL Finals 5-2 at the hands of the Allen Americans (9-5) at the Allen Event Center. The series is even at one as the two teams will head to Wichita for the next two. RG Flath and Nathan Lutz scored for the Thunder while Torrie Jung suffered his first loss of the post-season. The two teams combined for 164 minutes in penalties and 52 infractions. Game 3 will take place on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Thunder Claim Game 1 with 4-1 Victory over Allen

chl_playoffs_curved_100x100Allen, TX (April 30) – Wichita (9-0) jumped out to a two-goal lead and never looked back, taking Game 1 of the Ray Miron President’s Cup Finals over the Allen Americans (8-5) by the final of 4-1. Todd Griffith added a pair of goals while Les Reaney tallied two helpers in the victory. The Thunder increase its playoff winning streak to nine games and set a new CHL Playoff record. Wichita takes a 1-0 series lead with Game 2 taking place on Thursday night.

Former CHL’ers Make Way on to AHL Playoff Rosters

ahl_curved_90x90The American Hockey League have begin their playoffs as 16 teams will fight to hoist the Calder Cup.

Several CHL alumnus are playing in the AHL’s post-season including numerous players that started this season in the CHL.

Allen has a trio of players that were on their opening day roster in the CHL that have made their way to the AHL and now find themselves in that post-season.

Shots from the Point for Friday, April 26th – Playoff Edition

The Colorado Eagles scored four times in the third period to defeat the Mississippi RiverKings 5-2 in Game 6 of their Conference Finals series winning the series four games to one and advancing to the CHL Finals to take on the Texas Brahmas.  Colorado jumped out to a 3-0 series lead versus the RiverKings before Mississippi had back-to-back six goal outbursts to send the series back to Colorado for a Game 6.  Current Wichita forward Matt Summers was a member of that RiverKings squad.

Reaney is no stranger to the CHL Finals and in fact, it was against Allen that he and the Rapid City Rush hoisted the Cup with a thrilling Game 6 double overtime win.

Americans and Thunder to Meet for CHL Championship

The Americans earn home ice in the series thanks to finishing one point ahead of the Thunder during the regular season.  The two clubs finished one, two in the standings with Allen boasting a 39-18-9 mark and Wichita finishing the season with a 39-19-8 mark.

Americans Advance to 2013 Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals

Mavericks Dominate Game 6; Force Game Seven

Mavericks’ forward Kenton Miller added two goals and Colt King registered three assists for the Mavericks who forced Game 7 with their second straight victory.

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs took a 2-1 series lead in the Presidents’ Cup Finals against Laredo thanks to a 23-save performance by Ken Carroll earning the 1-0 shutout victory.  Forbes MacPherson scored the game winning goal for the ‘Bugs in the third period but Laredo would rally to win Game’s 5, 6 and 7 to win the Cup.

Wichita Advances to Ray Miron Presdients’ Cup Finals

chl_playoffs_curved_100x100Press Release: wichitathunder.com – The Wichita Thunder have earned a spot in the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals for the second consecutive season thanks to their Conference Semifinals series sweep over the Fort Worth Brahmas.  The Thunder will make their second consecutive trip to the Finals and their fifth visit overall.  Wichita has two CHL titles to their credit (defeated Tulsa in 1994 and defeated San Antonio in 1995).

Mavs Miracle Finish in Game 5 Keeps Series Going

chl_playoffs_curved_100x100Press Release: missourimavericks.com – The Missouri Mavericks extended their CHL Semifinals series against the Allen Americans with a 3-2 overtime win at Independence Events Center.  Allen now leads the best-of-seven series 3-2.  Mavericks’ forward Andrew Courtney scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation and he notched the game-winning goal in the first minute of overtime.  Goaltender Mike Clemente made 27 saves on 29 shots for his third win of the playoffs.  The series moves back to Allen for Games Six and Seven (if necessary) on Mon., April 22 and Tues., April 23.
